Workshop description: To make their technical concepts comprehensible to non-experts, scientists often use comparisons to partially similar, more familiar concepts. Look in the history of science (e.g. „History of life is like a tree“, „atoms are structured like the solar system“, „DNA is like the code for a computer program“) or examine any TED-talk and you will find frequent uses of analogy as an imperfect but effective communication tool.
In these two concise online sessions, we will reflect about analogies as a tool for making your presentations at the upcoming retreat more accessible. You will also have the opportunity to start generating analogies for your own, domain-specific concepts.
Note: The workshop consists of two online workshop sessions, taking place on two subsequent days. The link for virtual attendance is shared via e-mail.
